I hope this message finds you well. I’m reaching out to the forum because we have been embarking on an exciting open source project and are looking for talented individuals to help us bring it to life.
We’re developing an offline simulator client for an online game that has evolved so much over the years that its original versions are no longer recognizable. Our goal is to create a simulator that allows users to revisit these older versions of the game, using the original files and experiencing them as they were initially designed.
About the Project The client we’ve developed so far relies on several third-party components:
TMS Components Pack ImageEn (for image handling) StyleControl The core of the project is already in place, but we need additional expertise to enhance and complete it. The simulator will support multiple versions and languages of the game, offering a nostalgic offline experience.
What We Need We’re seeking collaborators to help with the following tasks:
User Interface: Develop a fully functional UI that aligns with the game’s original design and provides an intuitive user experience. Item Interaction: Implement functionality for picking up and dropping items, both from characters and mobs. Character Stats and Skills: Integrate systems to display and manage character stats and skills accurately. Layering Improvements: Enhance the layering of objects and backgrounds for a more immersive experience. Projectiles: Develop mechanics for projectiles and their interactions within the game environment. Item Management: Implement equipping and unequipping of items for characters. Why Join Us? This is a fan-made project with a passionate community dedicated to preserving and celebrating the history of this beloved game. We’ve been working on this adventure for years and are excited to see it reach a stage where it’s possible to achieve our vision. Your contribution would be invaluable in bringing this project to completion.
Get Involved If you’re interested in joining us, please check out the project repository here: 1:https://github.com/Elem8100/MapleStory-GM-Client 2:https://github.com/Elem8100/MapleNecrocer 3:(similar project) https://github.com/Arnuh/HaSuite We welcome any level of involvement, whether it’s development, testing, or providing feedback.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need more information. We look forward to collaborating with you and bringing this nostalgic project to life!
About the game, (2024) MapleStory and the previous versions (2003-2024). Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MapleStory The game started out with 4 Main classes called the "explorer classes" which are compromised of Warrior, Bowman, Magician, Thief. From here, many updates rolled out for the game and it gained many players. Now there are over 40+ classes. After the popularity hit the game, the developers (Nexon) decided to give the game a "Big Bang" update.. Which was very terrific and destroyed all the remaining old parts of the game that people loved. Now even Nexon is figuring out how to redeliver this "old-school maple" experience. While they are scrambling to find the perfect server to continue profiting on, some people are developing tools to revisit the old game experience in a new way. The majority of the old school players opt for the illegal private server experience because that is all that is left to try, but private servers shut down here there randomly and you could lose all of your progress. It would be best to have an offline version to save your own files on. It would be great if it could also be multiplayer but I know there is much that comes into play with that, but who knows what people are willing to create when inspiration hits.
This following quote is from a private server that is currently on Version 12 of the game which is very old. Given the history of saving old versions of the game, older versions are hard to come by. This experience is different from later versions of the game (even pre-bb versions like v40+) in that it is heavily focused on community, immersion, and the Maple World as opposed to levels and stats. The game was a very different experience back then and we are working hard to bring that back. For all you beta testers reading this, there is still a long road ahead. But I want you, when you first enter the game, not to start testing and grinding, but to take a step back and take in the world around you. Turn on the soundtrack and give it a good listen. Pretend that once again you have stepped into a new and foreign universe and are exploring it for the first time. Remember that this isn't about the game, it's about the experience, and you will be set up for success here. This applies to all future players too. The world isn't going anywhere, and I want to ask everyone to appreciate it instead of just pounding through levels and getting gear. -
