I would like to capture the image from the scanner, get the histogram from this image , automaticaly identify which value should be interpreted as the darkest "shadow" and which value should be interpreted as the lightest "highlight" and after that adjust the tone using these black and white point that I got it.
Thanks JC

But the software i am developing will make an assessment where the image resolution that was captured from the scanner and this tone adjustment is a important part of the process.
If I do like you suggested, the user will have to define the blackest and whitest point from the histogram. So, some mistake can be done.
What I need is, detect automatically these two points from the image's histogram and apply this adjustment on the image captured from the scanner without the user intervention .
How can I do this?
Thanks
